Ready to woo the community and visitors with her award-winning wines, Jennifer J. Jenkin, owner of Pamo Valley Winery, is pleased to announce that her tasting room is now open.
Jenkin, an innovative winemaker, has been harvesting grapes for more than eight years.
She has introduced a variety of premium wines under the Pamo Valley label, and more recently, JJJ Cellars.
Her success story began in Pamo Valley where the grapes were historically grown. Over time, the vineyard expanded and eventually moved to the lush hillsides of Ramona where the grapes fruitfully thrive today.
Playing an integral role in one of the few woman-owned wineries in San Diego is Jenkin’s mother, Sharon Uran, and her grandmother, Ellie Whitcomb. The trio collaboratively grow, care for and harvest crops on their respective properties, but not without the support of the hardworking men in their lives.
Admitting it may sound like a lot of grapes, Jenkin says it’s not enough to keep up with current demand so she purchases additional grapes from local growers, and credits Ramona grapes as the key ingredient to her femininely influenced wines.
Jenkin says wine making might sound sexy, but it’s a lot of work, adding, “We make our wines the old-fashioned way, by hand.”
Some of Jenkin’s wines are sold in limited supply at restaurants, stores, and at various events throughout San Diego.
Her varietals, including a Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petite Sirah, as well as several others, can be purchased at her tasting room located at 603 Main St.
Gaining notoriety, her boutique tasting room welcomes an array of guests, including Shahla Akbari from San Diego.
Akbari heard about the tasting room online. She said it was a beautiful drive to Ramona and immediately fell in love with the wines and the intimate stories behind each one, told directly by the owner herself.
“The wines are complex and passion infused,” said Akbari, adding the same could be said about Jennifer’s wonderfully shared stories.
Jenkin invites the public to visit her tasting room where her 2008 vintage will soon make its début and where visitors can enjoy some of the finest wine Ramona has to offer.
Tasting hours are Friday 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. To learn more, visit www.pamovalleyvineyards.com.
